Re: Food Related Ephemera is my weakness...
Fri, June 17, 2005 - 12:15 PMI share the weakness. There is something so hopefull and optimistic about them- as well as kind of disturbing because usually those old recipes are so bad for you. I, for one, was raised on casseroles straight out of Family Circle and Sunset so there is some nostalgia for the day when food was just food and not a complicated chemistry lesson like today.
I also tend to gravitate toward the Better Homes and Gardens interior decorating books for similar reasons: an all-plaid room with a red shag carpet- perfect! -

Re: Food Related Ephemera is my weakness...
Fri, June 17, 2005 - 1:50 PMOh the recipes are horrible most of the time! I am a chef and I have a very large cookbook collection to boot, I collect this particular ephemera for it's nostalgic value only.
As for food being a chemistry lesson, take out the middle man, buy local, fresh, cook your own, know what you eat, live longer and happier.
All-plaid room and a red shag carpet does sound sweet! I will see if I can post a perfect room for you later.

Re: Food Related Ephemera is my weakness...
Sat, July 9, 2005 - 1:53 PMI'm with you completely, although I have segued off into what I have been calling "Cannibalistic Children" as well. Old ads of kids eating... not only do you get the ephemeral food fix, but you get a wild-eyes eating child way too dosed up on the attention of the photographer to even look close to normal.
"You know the look... it's the look they give you right before they try and take your leg off with their teeth." -

Mon, July 11, 2005 - 10:13 AMOn this one I am not sure if the little girl is going for another donut or if the little boy's arm is making her lick her lips like that.

Sat, November 12, 2005 - 8:41 AMon on e of the home design shows to which i am hopelessly addicted, they used the panels on bi-fold closet doors to frame art they decoupaged. it was beautiful.
i just posted a cook book from the molly link on recipe exchange's album. "praise for the cook"
